sailing

Again and again I am asked how one comes up with the idea of circumnavigating the world and what preparation is needed. I have tried to summarize these considerations in the PDF below:

Route planning all around 2022 to 2027 - the basic considerations

Program 2024
"In the 1st half of 2024 in the CARIBBEAN FROM ST. LUCIA to Trinidad / Tobago TO THE BAHAMAS -
IN THE 2nd HALF OF THE BAHAMAS ALONG THE US-EASTCOAST TO NY - MAINE - ST. LAURENCE
AND BACK TO THE CARIBBEAN"

After completing ARC 2023, we will be sailing south from St. Lucia towards Trinidad and Tobago in the first half of 2024, before arriving in the Bahamas along the Windward and Leeward Islands towards Martinique, Antigua and Cuba towards the end of June.

From there we will sail along the scenically very beautiful US East Coast, starting with Florida and using the ICW Atlantic Intercoastal Waterway and various bays such as Cheasepeake Bay to New York / Maine / Halifax, possibly also to the mouth of the St. Lawrence River.

In November / December we will be back in the Caribbean to prepare for the passage through the Panama Canal towards the Pacific. We will make stopovers on the ABC islands Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao) and the Sin Blas Group, which is still very untouched by tourism.

The details of the planning for 2024 can be found in the attached table.

You can see a few considerations for individual cost sharing at the end of this page.

Our idea for sailing along - "Sailing with friends"

The idea of circumnavigating the world, which has existed since adolescence, is behind the "Time AUT". After many years with our own ships on Lake Constance and in the Adriatic, this represents the greatest challenge. We are happy to take friends and sailing enthusiasts on our trip for a fair share of the expenses. However, we are not paid skippers who accept orders like in a charter company. Our route planning is therefore always based on good seamanship and the personal needs of the crew and not on a fixed timetable.

your cost sharing

Single bookings / bookings in pairs:

The occupancy is possible per berth / per cabin or for the entire ship.

An occupancy with a total of two pairs of guests or a family of four has proven to be ideal.

As the owner / skipper, I am always on board.

Total booking:

In this case, the cost sharing depends on the choice of route, port or bay overnight stays; Entrance fees, ... Here, too, I am always on board as the owner / skipper. "Bareboat" is not possible for the time AUT :-)

  • All fixed costs for the boat are included in the cost sharing. The cost sharing is insured in the event of your cancellation or the cancellation of the skipper and will be refunded. A board cash box is also defined for each booking, from which all common running and additional costs dependent on the respective trip are paid. This includes: Provisions on board, berths, diesel, gas, area permits / nature parks, joint purchases, broken or missing equipment, etc. As a skipper, I see myself as part of the crew and contribute to the on-board cash box. I am happy to take ours Trip planning Your personal preferences for bays or ports, night trips or only day trips, ... with on. As a small reference point for the cost calculation: We are not commercial and profit-oriented on the road. Our motivation for fellow sailors is the interest in discovering new people, countries and situations together. For your calculation: You can assume average costs per week of € 850 per person / € 1500 for a cabin. For special trips (Transfers, long trips, ocean crossings, ....), guests sailing along who make a "contribution in kind" (specialists in boat technology, nautics, culinary art, ...), "Hand against berth", of course, special cost rates apply, which we agree individually.

The preparation

If possible, we will try to arrange a joint meeting with the entire crew about 3 months before the start of the trip. This way we get to know each other and can coordinate the detailed planning of the route well

Program 2023

"From Olbia via Corsica to southern France, Balearic Islands, Spain, Gibraltar, Madeira and Gran Canaria"

In 2023 we will transfer the boat from the current berth in Olbia / Sardinia to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in a good 6 months from the beginning of April to mid-October. From there, the ARC will take you directly to St. Lucia in the second half of November, or you can take the ARC plus via the Cape Verde Islands to Grenada.

For 2024, after completion of the ARC, it is planned to sail up via the Windward Islands to the Leeward Islands or Cuba, in order to then move the ship into a "hurricane hole" for the hurricane season or possibly also using the ICW Intercoastal Waterway to sail to New York. There it will also be decided whether we will add another Caribbean season or go through the Panama Canal to the Pacific (Galapagos, "South Seas", Fiji, Indian Ocean, Cape of Good Hope, Caribbean, Mediterranean)

The details of the planning for 2023 can be found in the attached table.

You can see a few considerations for individual cost sharing at the end of this page.

Program 2022

"Sailing from Olbia / Sardinia and around Sardinia"

Essentially, there are three appointment blocks:

  • Block 1: mid-April – end of June: Thomas will be on the ship during these weeks and will put together the program according to your wishes. Port of departure is always Olbia. Block 2: Beginning of July - mid-September: In these weeks we will start in Olbia, drive over the northern tip to the west coast, spend a time in the south around Cagliari and then come back to Olbia. Boarding options here are Olbia, Alghero and Cagliari. Block 3: mid-September – end of October: In these weeks, Thomas will again be available for individual bookings with departure port Olbia. stand

We will then put together the actual program as the interested parties tell us on which date / with which fellow sailors / with which route / ... they want to be there. We are at your disposal for questions and specific suggestions.
